We have had the privilege of visiting the Grand Canyon many times, and it never fails to impress us! On one hike, I became interested in contrast of the warm colors of the stone and the green life of the plants growing there. And not surprisingly, there are cacti everywhere.
I used acrylic on gesso board, and chose a vertical format to go with the vertical growth of the prickly pear. I worked with more pastel shades than my usual, aiming to capture the sun-bleached colors of the landscape.
