Acrylic on gessoboard - 24 x 6 in - 2015
I love watching hummingbirds in my yard. Although we could encourage more to visit us with feeders, I’m afraid we might not clean and/or refill the feeders often enough to be good for the birds. So, we’ve hit on a happy solution for our climate- we plant penstemon, of which flower in many enjoyable colors, don’t need much water, last through the season, and act as natural feeders for hummingbirds.
Here, I depicted the delightful interaction of penstemon and hummingbirds in our back yard in Santa Fe. I used vivid colors of acrylic paint on gesso board. The background is white, to let the rest of the colors stand out, but textured, to reflect the energy in the scene.
