Acrylic on canvas - 28 x 22 in - 2013
Are you a fellow tomato enthusiast? To me, there is almost nothing better to eat than a perfectly ripe, just-picked tomato. My dad even used to eat sandwiches solely made of thick slices of tomato, salt, pepper, and mayo between slices of white bread (“mater sandwiches”).
I captured my impression of these tomatoes using acrylic paint on canvas. If you look closely, you can also see I used texture additives, including gel, fiber paste, and fine texture medium (the sand-like areas), as well final layers of painting on top of these, to add depth.
I loved the shapes and shadows of these cacti at the Grand Canyon! After studying them for so long, they truly seemed to be walking across the desert. Original acrylic...
These sturdy, spiny cacti with their delicate blooms stretched toward the sunlight in my Santa Fe neighborhood. Their brief flowering was beautiful! Original acrylic on 12x9x2" thick gessoboard.
